‘The Busse lab in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Penn State University seeks to recruit one PhD students for Spring 2024. You should hold a BS or MS in mechanical engineering, civil/environmental engineering, biological engineering, or related discipline (MS strongly preferred).

You should have strong interests in environmental impact analysis, sustainability, and/or system thinking. This position will focus on analyzing the impact of geothermal expansion and lithium extraction (from geothermal brines) on water resources in the Salton Sea Known Geothermal Resource Area. Competitive applicants will be fluent in English (written and oral) and have previous research experience with computational environmental analysis methods.

About the PI

Dr. Margaret Busse (she/her) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Penn State University. Her research expertise lie in UV disinfection kinetics, small-scale water treatment system design, and multi-faceted techniques for environmental impact assessment to improve human health and drive decarbonization and sustainability. The Busse lab is actively committed to fostering an Inclusive environment for al affiliated researchers.
