About Doha Institute of Graduate Studies
The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies is a higher education institute in Doha, Qatar. Its first student enrollment was in the 2015/2016 academic year. The Doha Institute is intended as a graduate studies academy; students enrolled in its programs are eligible to receive master's degrees in a variety of fields related to the social sciences and humanities.
The Doha Institute was born of an initiative of the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, also located in Doha. The ACRPS announced the formal launch of the Doha Institute in 2014. According to its own website, the Doha Institute will be divided into a number of administrative teaching units: a School of Social Sciences and Humanities; a School of Public Administration and Development Economics; and a Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies. In addition, the Doha Institute includes the Doha Dictionary of the Arabic Language, an initiative aimed at creating an accessible dictionary of Arabic root words which also traces the etymology of Arabic root words over two thousand years of history.
About the Scholarship
Doha Institute for Graduate Studies offers a wide variety of scholarships annually to attract academically qualified students from within and outside the State of Qatar. The scholarships vary, some awarded on the basis of merit and academic competition, while others are based on financial need.
Master's Scholarships
Terms and Conditions
- No student may combine the scholarships of the Institute with any other scholarship whatever the source thereof.
- Only students who have a good academic standing continue to benefit from the Institute's scholarships. The Institute may, In accordance with its procedures withdraw scholarships from students who violate this requirement.
- The scholarships offered by the Institute shall not benefit the students enrolled in the Executive Masters or Diploma programs or specialized certificates.
- Scholarships offered by the Institute shall not benefit students who have previously benefited from the same scholarship in a previous period of study in any of the programs of the Institute, whether or not they are awarded a degree.
The master's scholarship is of two different types: Tamim Scholarship and Sanad Scholarship
1) Tamim Scholarship
These scholarships based on merit and academic excellence. It is dedicated to the most distinguished Qatari and international students in the Arab world. Scholarship include full tuition fees coverage, International students from outside Qatar will benefit from having free accommodation in institute dormitories, a monthly stipend, and health insurance.
2. Sanad Scholarship
These scholarship based on financial needs of students. It is dedicated to Qatari, Residents in Qatar and international students. Scholarship include covering a program's fees (10 to 100 %). International students from outside Qatar will benefit from having their full tuition fees covered, in addition to free accommodation in institute dormitories, a monthly stipend, and health insurance.
How to apply:
All admitted students can apply for a scholarship through the scholarship application form. The Admissions Office sends the application form to all eligible students. Students are given the opportunity to submit the application with all official and required documents.
Doctoral's Scholarships
Terms and Conditions
- Students who have previously benefited from the same scholarships shall not benefit from the scholarships offered by the Institute, whether they obtained the degree or not.
- A student shall not combine the Institute's scholarship and any other scholarship, whatever its source, except with the prior approval of the Doctoral Studies. Board
- Students who have obtained a full scholarship must commit, in return, to working for the Institute in the fields of research, teaching and any other fields that are required of them, for not less than ten hours per week during the semester. The working hours of the partial grantees are determined in proportion to the value of the scholarship, on condition that it does not exceed 15 hours per week.
- In consultation with the programs and colleges, the Doctoral Studies Board determines the required fields of work. To continue to benefit from the Institute's scholarships, the obligations specified above must be fulfilled.
Admission requirements of the first phase:
- The applicant must be accepted in the institution.
- The applicant must be unable to afford the costs of pursuing a doctoral degree and has no other scholarships.
- The scholarship covers two semesters during which the student must complete the courses of the first phase. In case of failing to complete them in that period, the student shall pay the additional fees as determined by the institution.
Admission Requirements of the second phase: (full-time to read the prospectus)
- The student's GPA shall not be less than 3.5 in first-phase courses.
- This scholarship covers one academic year.
Admission Requirements of the third phase: (Dissertation writing)
- The student must complete the tasks of the prospectus phase and must pass the comprehensive test by the end of the second phase.
- The scholarship covers two academic years, which can be extended by submitting a reasoned extension request and obtaining the approvals of the Director of the Doctoral Studies Board and the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Scholarship Types
- The scholarship of the first phase of Doctoral Studies; This scholarship is granted according to eligibility, and based on the criteria set forth below.
- The scholarship of the second phase, which is a full-time reading of the prospectus. Obtaining it is linked to achieving a GPA of no less than 3.5 in the courses of the first phase.
- Scholarship of the third phase, which is to prepare for the dissertation. Obtaining it is linked to passing the comprehensive examination.

6. Submit a valid minimum IELTS academic score 5.5 or TOFEL iBt score of 59. In certain circumstances, students can submit a DELF B2 test result with a minimum score of 50 as an alternative to the IELTS/TOEFL test to meet the admission requirement, noting that the required level of English must be achieved prior to graduation.
* The student Is exempt from the English language requirement If he obtained a bachelor's degree from one of the American, British, Canadian, or Australian universities or from their overseas branches, or from Qatari universities that adopt the English language as a teaching path.
* Graduation requirement an Academic IELTS score of 6.5 or TOEFL iBt score of 79. Admitted students with IELTS score of 5.5 or 6 are required to satisfy the graduation requirement during their study at the Institute. The student is exempted if he or she submits the test again during the study and achieves the score required for graduation.
