About the School

The USC Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is the pharmacy school of the University of Southern California, originally established in 1905 as USC College of Pharmacy. On November 17, 2022, the University of Southern California released an announcement [2] stating that the school will be renamed the USC Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and will receive a $50 million endowment for student scholarships, faculty recruitment and integrating a university-wide research infrastructure related to biomedical innovation across USC’s University Park and Health Sciences campuses. The School is led by Dean Vassilios Papadopoulos.

Rankings

In 2016, USC School of Pharmacy was ranked among the top 10 pharmacy schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. USC School of Pharmacy was among the top five U.S. schools with the strongest passing rates on the 2015 North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX). The USC School of Pharmacy class of 2016 had the highest passage rate in California (97.4%) on the North American Pharmacy Licensing Exam (NAPLEX).


About the Position/Program:

Located on the USC University Park Campus in Los Angeles, the USC Ph.D. program in health economics offers students the opportunity to help shape the future of health care through groundbreaking research and innovative policy solutions. Our multidisciplinary program offers rigorous training in microeconomics, econometrics, cost-effectiveness analysis, welfare economics, public finance, epidemiology, and health status measurement. Students in the program work closely with our world-renowned faculty, gaining the practical research experience needed to launch their careers.

The program offers numerous benefits that position the students for future success. All Ph.D. students are fully funded, including tuition remission and stipend for up to five years through teaching and research assistantships or competitive fellowships. Many of the students participate in internships that offer real-world experience and networking opportunities in industry, policy analysis, and consulting. The departments affiliation with the Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for health Policy & Economics provides opportunities for students to work closely with distinguished faculty from across USC on impactful projects. Bolstered in part by the strong alumni network, the students are highly sought after for position in academia, government, and industry.


Admission Requirement

Graduates with PharmD, MD, MPH, and master's or bachelor's degree in economics, statistics, computer science, mathematics. and other related fields are invited to apply for this Ph.D program. The Department's Graduate Review Committee for the Ph.D. program considers applications based on a number of criteria, including the applicants personal statement, Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score, grade point average (GPA), and letters of recommendation. GRE scores are required, and all participants must meet USC's minimum standards for admission.
